As a money-making esthetician, I’m always looking for ways to introduce new services while keeping my clients excited and engaged. Recently, I took a class with Aya's masterclass , and while I’m not quite a master yet, I know that practice makes perfect! Rather than giving clients the illusion that I’m an expert right away, I decided to do a model call—something I’ve done successfully in the past. This time, though, I leveled up my strategy and saw even better results.
The Power of a Model Call
Model calls are an amazing way to practice new techniques while attracting both new and returning clients. The key is to offer the service at a discount—in my case, 50% off. It’s a win-win: clients get a great treatment at a reduced rate, and I get hands-on experience.
Leveling Up My Model Call Strategy
This time around, I added a crucial element: automated email list building. Instead of just posting a model call on social media, I created a link through my website so anyone who signed up was automatically added to my email list. Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before! You can also use a Google Form to collect email addresses if you don’t have a website set up.
Building your email list through model calls means you’re not just getting clients once—you’re creating future opportunities to re-target them. Whether they book another treatment or not, you’ve got their info and can follow up with promotions, tips, and updates.
Making It Special: The Client Experience
To make the model call truly memorable, I focused on every detail:
• Warm Welcome: Clients are greeted with water, coffee, and a personalized cookie.
• Relaxing Atmosphere: The diffuser is running, the bed warmer is on, and I have all the gadgets ready to go.
• Comprehensive Consultation: I do a thorough skin analysis and discuss their current routine. I always make a minimum of three product recommendations because I truly believe in the products I use and want them to get the best results at home.
Securing Commitments Upfront
One thing I’ve learned the hard way is that no-shows can be a nightmare—especially when you’re offering discounted services. This time, I made sure to send an invoice and require payment before the appointment. If they don’t pay, they lose their spot—simple as that. Plus, I send a friendly reminder to make sure they’re still on board.
Follow-Up Is Key
After the treatment, I make it a priority to follow up on Monday to see how their skin is feeling, check if they want to rebook, and ask for a review. This shows I genuinely care about their experience and gives me valuable feedback.
Why Model Calls Are Worth It
Not only do model calls give you hands-on practice and help perfect your technique, but they’re also an incredible way to build rapport, gather reviews, and create ongoing relationships. This year, my main focus is growing my membership base, and these model calls are a fantastic way to reconnect with past clients and attract new ones.
If you’re introducing a new service or simply want to generate buzz, give model calls a try. Just remember to build your email list, secure payments upfront, and make every client feel special. You’ll be amazed at how this simple strategy can help grow your business and boost your confidence in new techniques!
