  • A Barrier-First Approach to Advanced Skin Renewal: Inside the Storyderm TimeMachine Peel at Sweet Silhouette by Shayla

At Sweet Silhouette by Shayla, my approach to skin health is deeply rooted in Korean skincare principles prioritizing skin barrier integrity, advanced technology, and long-term results rather than quick fixes. Every treatment I introduce into my treatment room is chosen with intention, ensuring it supports the skin’s natural renewal process while delivering visible, lasting improvements. One protocol that perfectly aligns with this philosophy is the Storyderm TimeMachine Peel. With its innovative spicule (liquid microneedle) technology and emphasis on controlled stimulation, this treatment offers a results-driven yet skin-respecting solutio Why I Chose the TimeMachine Peel What initially drew me to the TimeMachine Peel was its ability to deliver advanced results without aggressively compromising the skin barrier. I was looking for a What truly gave me confidence was its spicule technology, which stimulates cellular renewal from within rather than relying solely on harsh surface exfoliation. The ingredient profile further reinforced that this protocol was designed to support the skin not fight it. With components like hyaluronic acid, beta-glucan, centella asiatica, peptides, and propolis, the peel balances stimulation with hydration, soothing, and repair. Reading the Skin: Technique Over Force This treatment is not about pressure it’s about precision. During the protocol, I’m constantly monitoring skin reactivity and feedback, paying close attention to redness patterns, heat, sensitivity, and how evenly the skin responds as the peel is worked in. Areas with thicker skin may tolerate slightly more stimulation, while delicate zones require a lighter hand. Every movement is deliberate and adjusted in real time, with the goal of achieving effective micro-stimulation without tipping the skin into unnecessary inflammation. Why Proper Prep Is Non-Negotiable Preparation is everything with the TimeMachine Peel. The double cleanse ensures the skin is completely free of oil, debris, and residue, allowing the spicules to penetrate evenly and effectively. The steam step plays a crucial role by softening the stratum corneum, increasing skin receptivity while reducing the amount of pressure needed during application. When the skin is properly prepped, results are more consistent, the peel works more efficiently, and irritation is significantly minimized. Post-Treatment Comfort: Cooling and Red Light Therapy After an active treatment like this, calming and recovery are essential. Chilling the TimeMachine sheet mask provides immediate soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits, helping to reduce heat and enhance overall comfort. Pairing the mask with red light therapy further supports cellular repair, collagen stimulation, and inflammation reduction. Together, they create an ideal post-treatment environment that promotes healing while maximizing results. Who Is This Treatment Best For? The TimeMachine Peel responds beautifully in clients dealing with: -Pigmentation -Acne scarring -Dull or uneven texture -Enlarged pores -Early signs of aging This is especially true when the skin barrier is healthy and resilient. Clients with compromised barriers, active inflammation, or highly sensitized skin require a more cautious approach or may not be ideal candidates initially. In those cases, barrier repair and skin strengthening must come first before introducing this level of stimulation. Results, Recovery, and Setting Expectations Most clients experience mild redness and inflammation immediately after treatment, along with an instant glow, improved firmness, and smoother texture. Progressive improvements continue over the next 5–7 days as cellular turnover takes place. I always emphasize that this is a process-driven treatment, not a one-day transformation. Microneedle sensations, tingling, dryness, or light peeling may occur, and proper aftercare is essential. Consistency and respecting recovery time are key to achieving long-term, visible results. Advice for Estheticians Considering This Protocol For estheticians looking to implement the TimeMachine Peel successfully, my biggest advice is simple: slow down and listen to the skin. This peel does not require force to be effective. Proper preparation, controlled technique, and thoughtful pacing make all the difference. Respecting the skin barrier means knowing when to adjust pressure, when to stop, and when to prioritize recovery over intensity. When performed with intention, the Storyderm TimeMachine Peel delivers advanced results while preserving skin health and that should always be the ultimate goal.

  • How to Get Your Valentine’s Day Offer Ready With Intention and Strategy

Valentine’s Day is one of those moments in the year that can either feel exciting and intentional or rushed and overwhelming. The difference comes down to one thing preparation. If you are reading this now, you are already ahead. When Should You Have Your Valentine’s Day Offer Ready Your Valentine’s Day offer should ideally be finalized four to six weeks before February 14 . That does not mean you need to be promoting it nonstop, but you should already know exactly what the offer is, who it is for, and what goal it supports in your business. Planning early allows you toBuild anticipationSpeak confidently about your offerEducate instead of pushAttract the right clients instead of everyone Last minute offers bring last minute energy. Planned offers bring aligned results. Pause and Get Clear on Your Goal Before choosing gifts, discounts, or bundles, pause and ask yourself what you actually want this offer to do. Take a moment and think through these questionsWho is my ideal client right nowDo I want new people in the doorDo I want to convert first time clientsDo I want to grow my membershipsDo I want to increase package salesDo I want more Google reviewsDo I want to reward loyalty Your answers should guide your offer. For exampleIf your goal is new clients, your offer should feel approachable and welcomingIf your goal is package sales, your Valentine’s offer can be layered onto a package purchaseIf your goal is more Google reviews, Valentine’s is a great time to say thank you to clients who leave thoughtful reviewsIf your goal is membership growth, everything should point back to the value of joining When your offer matches your goal, it feels strategic instead of random. Valentine’s Day Does Not Have to Mean Discounts One of the biggest misconceptions is that Valentine’s Day has to mean money off. Some of the strongest offers are built aroundExperienceAppreciationExclusivityThoughtful gifting Clients love feeling seen and valued. That emotional connection often goes further than a percentage off ever could. Keep It Simple and Clear Your Valentine’s Day offer should be easy to explain in one or two sentences. Ask yourselfWhat are they gettingWho is it forHow long is it availableWhat action do I want them to take Clear offers convert better than complicated ones. Ideas to Spark Your Valentine’s Day Offer If you are still brainstorming, here are a few ways to think outside of discounts while still creating excitement. You might host an open house  and offer tickets to attend. That ticket can turn into a gift with purchase. Anyone who attends and books a service, joins a membership, or purchases a package receives a small Valentine’s themed gift. This keeps the event feeling special and intentional. Another idea is an experience based event , like a peel party. For example, clients purchase a series of three chemical peels and receive a sunblock and eye patches as a bonus. This protects your pricing while increasing perceived value. These small touches matter. The gifts do not have to be expensive to feel thoughtful. When something is packaged well and paired with a thank you, clients feel appreciated and remembered. You are not just selling a service. You are creating a moment. What I Am Doing for Valentine’s Day and Why For my business, my main goal right now is growing my memberships , so everything I am doing is centered around that. I will be gifting eye patches to my current members  as a thank you for being part of my membership. I want my members to feel appreciated and cared for, not forgotten once they join. I am also using these as an incentive for new members . I will be hosting an open live and an open house event, and anyone who joins my membership during that time will receiveEye patchesA lollipopA cute thank you note It is simple, thoughtful, and aligned with where I want my business to grow. This approach also leaves room to show appreciation in other ways. Valentine’s Day is a great time to acknowledge loyal clients, referrals, and those who support your business through Google reviews. A Valentine’s Day offers work best when they are intentional. Start early. Get clear on your goal. Build your offer around the clients you actually want to attract and retain. When you do that, February feels calm, confident, and aligned instead of chaotic. And that is always the goal.

  • 6 Things You Must Do Before You Build (or Rehab) Your Estie Website

A Smith & Crawford Guide for Estheticians Who Want a Website That Actually Converts If you’re an esthetician getting ready to build (or glow-up) your website in 2025… pause that Wix tab for one hot second. Because here’s the truth no one tells you: Your website is the LAST step — not the first. A profitable, polished, client-magnetizing esthetician website is built on strategy, clarity, visuals, messaging, and alignment that happens before  a single pixel is designed. And this is exactly where most estheticians go wrong. They jump right into picking templates. They start dragging and dropping things into Canva. They upload random photos from their camera roll. And they expect it to magically “look professional.” But you’re not just  building a website. You’re building a brand asset  that books clients, positions you as the expert, and becomes the home base for your esthetician business. So before you touch a template, scroll one more time, or yell “WHY IS THIS FONT DOING THAT?” at your laptop… here are the 6 things you absolutely need in place first. 1. Do a Small, Professional Photoshoot (Yes… Before the Website Begins) A website without professional photos is like a facial without moisturizer. It technically works, but the result is dry, unfinished, and not giving what it needs to give. Your website is a visual experience.Clients decide in 3 seconds if you look credible, elevated, and worth booking. And nothing elevates faster than thoughtful, intentional brand photography. Here’s what your shoot should include: ✔ Headshots Clean, welcoming, natural. People buy from faces they trust. ✔ Treatment shots Holding tools, performing services, prepping the treatment room, cozy close-ups of towels or serums, with all that aesthetic goodness. ✔ Lifestyle content Smiling, standing, working, writing notes, looking at your product shelves, mixing masks as examples. You want photos that show energy, confidence, and your esthetician personality. ✔ Space shots Even if you rent a room, make it look intentional. Clean counters, and thoughtfully arrange bottles in an aesthetic way. Your environment matters. This doesn’t need to be a huge, expensive shoot. You don’t need 300 photos. You just need 20–30 strategic ones that match your brand vibe and give your website designer real imagery to work with. Bottom line: Professional photos instantly make your website look 10x more expensive, trustworthy, and polished — even if you’re brand new. 2. Define Your Brand Foundation: Fonts, Colors & Visual Aesthetic Your website cannot look cohesive or luxe if your brand doesn’t have a clear visual identity. Fonts and colors matter — not because they’re “cute,” but because they create brand recognition, consistency, and authority. You need at minimum: ✔ A primary brand color ✔ A secondary/neutral color palette ✔ A clean, readable paragraph font ✔ A high-end headline font ✔ A photography style that matches your aesthetic If you want to attract premium clients, you need premium visual consistency. Strong branding does the heavy lifting for you. It tells your website designer: how your buttons should look how your headers should feel how your photos should be edited what your layout needs to convey This is why our Estie Brand & Website and Mini Estie Brand & Website packages always start with brand development first — because the website cannot exist without it. Before you build, decide: ✔ Are you soft neutrals or bold statement colors? ✔ Are you minimal, clinical, warm, or luxurious? ✔ Are your clients earthy spa girls or modern med-aesthetic lovers? Clarity here = a website that feels intentional, not random. 3. Clarify Your Brand Voice & Messaging (What You Say + How You Say It) This is the step estheticians skip most, and it’s the one that converts the most. Your brand voice is your personality in words.  It’s how you talk about: skin treatments results client experience what makes you different You need to know, before your website is designed: Are you clinical and educational? Are you warm, cozy, and holistic? Are you edgy + bold? Are you funny, approachable, and trendy? Are you luxury, minimalist, and highly curated? Your copywriter or designer cannot guess this. If your tone isn’t defined, your website ends up sounding generic. And generic websites don’t convert. Your voice should: speak directly to your ideal client validate their concerns position you as the skin expert explain your philosophy show your personality make booking feel like the obvious next step This is why we help our Estie clients create “brand voice guidelines”  because once your voice is defined, everything clicks into place. 4. Organize Your Service Menu & Treatment Structure With Intention Scrolling a chaotic service list is the digital version of walking into a cluttered spa lobby. Your website needs a strategic, simplified menu that makes booking easy, not overwhelming. Before your build, answer these questions: ✔ What treatments do you actually want to be known for? Not the ones you tolerate, the ones you absolutely love. ✔ Which services convert first-time clients the best? Lead with those. ✔ Which treatments are your higher-ticket or signature services? Feature them prominently. ✔ Do your services need better grouping? Example: Corrective Facials Acne Programs Age Management Treatments Advanced Modalities Add-ons ✔ What is your long-term client journey? How do they progress from beginner to long-term?This determines how your website guides them. Clients need clarity: what the treatment does who it’s for how often to come what results to expect If you don’t outline this before the website is built, the site will feel unfocused, unclear, and harder to convert. 5. Write or Outline Client-Focused Copy That Converts Most esthetician websites talk at clients instead of to them. Your website copy needs to: build trust reduce hesitation position you as the expert remove confusion get them excited make booking feel obvious Before the site is built, outline: your mission + philosophy what makes your approach special who you serve the transformation you offer what makes your treatments different FAQs you answer constantly client problems you solve results they can expect Strong copy = strong conversions. Weak copy = people clicking away. This is why many estheticians build a site and still feel like “something isn’t working.”99% of the time? It's the messaging, not the design. And yes… this is exactly the difference our clients feel when they invest in a Smith & Crawford brand and website. We write copy that turns browsers into bookers. 6. Gather Your Tech, Reviews, Policies & Proof So Nothing Slows Down Your Build Website builds slow down not because of design, but because estheticians don’t have the backend pieces ready. Here’s what you MUST gather beforehand: ✔ Booking Link A direct link to your booking platform (Vagaro, GlossGenius, Boulevard, etc.). ✔ Client Testimonials + Before/Afters Proof sells.Your website needs credibility, not just pretty layouts. ✔ Your Policies Cancellation Late arrivals No-shows Returns Membership terms All written and ready. ✔ Your Email, Phone, Address & Socials Brand-consistent and updated. ✔ Any Forms or Programs Consultation formsMembership PDFsPre- and post-care instructionsAcne program details ✔ Your SEO Targets Your cityYour nicheYour service keywords If you want a smooth, stress-free website build, have these assets gathered before the project begins. Your designer will thank you. Your timeline will thank you. Your future self will thank you. Here’s Where Smith & Crawford Comes In… Once estheticians realize how much goes into a professional, high-converting website, they fall into one of two camps: 1️⃣ “I want this done right — someone please take over.” or2️⃣ “I love the DIY spirit… but I need strategy, structure, and design support.” We built two packages specifically for estheticians at two different stages: ⭐ The Estie Brand & Website — $2997 (Full Mini Brand + 3-Page Website Build) Perfect for estheticians who want: A polished, elevated, luxury brand A fully built website that feels expensive A high-end digital home for their business Professional copywriting included Done-for-you strategy, design, and structure Includes:  ✔ Brand colors + fonts  ✔ Moodboard + aesthetic direction  ✔ Homepage  ✔ Services page  ✔ About page  ✔ Booking integration  ✔ SEO setup  ✔ Copywriting  ✔ Mobile optimization  ✔ Payment plans available ⭐ The Mini Estie Brand & One-Page Website — $1797 (Fonts & Colors Only + A Beautiful Single-Page Site) Perfect for beginners, solo esties, or those not ready for a full build. Includes:  ✔ Fonts + color suite  ✔ Beautiful one-page layout  ✔ Service overview  ✔ About section  ✔ Booking section  ✔ Contact section  ✔ Light SEO setup  ✔ Payment plans available Same S&C polish. Smaller footprint. Budget-friendly. Still stunning. Final Word: Your Website Is Your First Impression — Make It Count You deserve a website that feels like you. Professional. Warm. Expert. Trustworthy. Booked-out energy. And that doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by preparing intentionally. Do these six things before you build, and your website will not just look gorgeous… it will work. • What Estheticians Can Learn From Kmart: Why AI Is the Future of Your Beauty Business

Kmart was once one of the most powerful retailers in the country. Everyone shopped there. They had loyal customers, prime locations, and a brand name that felt untouchable. So why did Kmart close? Many experts agree on one core reason: Kmart failed to adapt. While other brands embraced the rise of the internet, modernized their systems, and evolved with consumer behavior, Kmart stayed comfortable. They didn’t innovate. They didn’t take technology seriously. They held onto the old way of doing things. And slowly, people moved on. Kmart didn’t close because it was bad. Kmart closed because it refused to change. This is the message every esthetician needs to hear in 2025: AI will not take your job. But someone using AI might. • NeurotriS Q&A: Pricing, Packages, and Expert Tips for Amazing Results

How much do you charge for a NeurotriS treatment? Ask for typical pricing for a single session . National average should be anywhere from $250 and above with a discount on packages Also ask about package deals (how many sessions, how much discount). 25% off on the packages Ask if pricing varies by type (face microcurrent vs body sculpting vs combined). No, you can charge the same on body vs the face but if you are working on multip What package options do you recommend or most clients pick? How many sessions do people usually buy? 6-8, with facials 2x  week Maintenance vs initial package: what does that look like? Maintenance sessions may be scheduled monthly to bi-monthly, depending on the client’s goals and expectations. Clients may also choose to complete multiple treatment series to help achieve their desired results. What’s the cost difference (or value) between different package levels. Advanced modalities vs basic facials What is your favorite NeurotriS protocol to do on clients? Which frequency or “phase” do you like the most (facial lift, muscle tone, body sculpting, etc)? I don’t have a single favorite tool, or specific program because achieving the best results requires using all of them at different stages of the treatment—something we cover thoroughly during training. With that said, if I had to choose, my personal favorite is the Photon 3-in-1. Why that one – what results have you seen? It features LED light therapy in red, blue, and green, a true dynamic microcurrent function using the Red Infinity probe or the snap cable with conductive pads, and it can also be used for standard microcurrent treatments. How do you customize the protocol for different client goals (aging skin, sagging, inches, face vs body). It all begins with the products and modalities I select for each client, as the specific microcurrent protocol is most effective when used in conjunction with other treatments. During training, you will learn exactly which programs to use based on your client’s individual goals, ensuring you can create the most effective and customized treatment plan. How many treatments do clients typically need to see “real” or lasting results? What’s your typical recommended timeline (e.g., 2x/week for 5 weeks, then maintenance)? This will depend on the client’s commitment and the level of their skin concerns. If a client is seeking a dramatic transformation and wants to avoid going “under the knife,” it may require up to two years of consistent dedication, including multiple treatment series and a homecare routine incorporating our Pico Toner. When do you recommend clients do maintenance sessions and how often? Some clients come in monthly, while others prefer bi-monthly visits. We’ve found that completing sessions twice per week results in approximately 30% greater improvement  compared to once-a-week treatments. What kind of results have you personally seen / your clients seen? Before & after anecdote(s): lifting, toning, inch loss, facial firmness. I have seen lifting, toning, skin texture changes with just one facial! The reactions I get when I show them the before and after's are why I do what I do. Any standout success stories. We have quite a few on the website that we are quite proud of, but understand these results took time, client commitment and dedication.  How soon do clients start to see a difference? Some will see it the same day, this is why it is crucial to take those pictures! Are there any contraindications or clients who are not a good fit? Health conditions, skin types, age limits, or other risk factors. The earlier you start in life the better, but of course we do not recommend to use it on children. What do you screen for before someone starts NeurotriS treatment? Medical conditions they may be actively seeing their physician for and getting treatments for, the physician will always be the one who ultimately clears the client for a microcurrent facial or series.  How does NeurotriS compare to other microcurrent / body sculpting technologies? Why choose NeurotriS over other microcurrent devices or other modalities? We are not only FDA-registered and 510(k)-cleared, but our devices are also manufactured in an FDA-cleared facility in the United States.Featuring Dynamic Intelligent Microcurrent. Proudly made in the USA. What makes it unique (technology, “dynamic intelligent microcurrent,” etc.)? Dynamic Intelligent Microcurrent (DIMC) represents the next major advancement in microcurrent therapy because of its biologically adaptive behavior. Unlike first-generation static microcurrent devices—which deliver a fixed, unvarying electrical output—DIMC systems continuously sense, interpret, and respond to the skin’s real-time bioelectrical activity. This adaptive response means the device adjusts amplitude, waveform, and current flow based on tissue feedback, making the method of delivery far more significant than focusing on a single preset frequency. In other words, while frequency plays a role, the true efficacy of microcurrent lies in how intelligently and dynamically the current is delivered, allowing DIMC to align more closely with the body’s natural bioelectrical communication Dynamic Intelligent Microcurrent is patented and FDA 510k CLEARED for esthetician use What do clients say about their experience (comfort, downtime, how it “feels”)? Most feel a tingling sensation, some see orbs of light, some feeling or see nothing at all, and that is all okay, they do not need to feel or see anything to have amazing results. What does training / certification look like for you / for estheticians who use NeurotriS? Did you have to be certified? No, but have to be trained to use it and will get the certification when you train with us. How long did the training take? ½ day for hands on with your educator and you get online portal access as well. Does NeurotriS provide ongoing support, updates, or new protocols? Of course we offer additional assistance with your representative. What are common “boosters” or add-ons you combine with NeurotriS? Do you pair it with other treatments (LED, cryotherapy, peels)? Yes, we offer an Advanced Education Two Day Training and are traveling around the country to offer these two-day events, so please check our Event's Page for a training event near you! What combos have gotten the best results in your practice? I love it with Nanoinfusion, peels and LED but we have many providers using it microneedling as well. How do you price and sell this service to your clients? How do you explain its benefits? I tell my clients it is going to give you a boost of energy, the same one we have in our own bodies to hydrate the cells and oxygenate them for healing. What objections do you get, and how do you overcome them? No objections so far! The only question clients usually ask is whether there is any discomfort — and the answer is no . How do you position it in your service menu (premium, signature, add-on)? Most of our up-scale providers have it included in all facials because we know the benefits and want everyone to enjoy them, but you can certainly have a signature Red-Carpet with a luxury skincare product line of your choice as we are product line neutral.  What’s your advice for other estheticians or spa owners thinking about investing in a NeurotriS machine? What should they consider before buying? Have some family or friends in mind that you would to try it on to have those before and after's ready for, another way is by including it for free to your top clients and asking them if its okay to take a few pictures with this new modality you have, we have consent forms for you if you need them.  What ROI (return on investment) have you seen or projected?  Any lessons learned or things you wish you knew before starting. Just making sure to market the service as often and to all your clients as possible so you have excitement.  be confident, Knowlegable, and edicated.

  • Why My First Solo Attempt at a Business Failed (And What I Learned)

When I first decided to go solo, I thought I had it all figured out. I came from a background managing a dental office, where I excelled at marketing and bringing people in the door. I knew grassroots strategies—passing out flyers, handing out business cards, hustling like a beast—and social media? That was my playground. I even worked with influencers and had a strong blog following. I thought I had the secret formula. But here’s the thing: fortune is in the follow-up. And that’s where I completely fell short. 1. Terrible Consultations I didn’t know how to properly consult with clients. I didn’t understand impaired barriers, and I wasn’t well-versed in my back bar. On a first-time client, I once put a blueberry enzyme on their skin. Why? Purely rookie mistake. And yes, one time a friend of Kylie Jenner came in, and I tried to “wow” her with a cherry Skinscript enzyme. Terrible decision. My consultations lacked structure, and I wasn’t customizing treatments based on actual skin needs. 2. No Retail Strategy I didn’t sell products. I literally sent clients to Ulta to buy Dermalogica. This was a massive mistake. If a client came in for acne or hyperpigmentation, I couldn’t prep their skin to move them up to stronger treatments. I went too strong too fast because I didn’t have a system to gradually introduce them. Without retail, I couldn’t create a proper regimen to prep skin for more advanced treatments, which affected results—and results equal retention. 3. Follow-Up Was Nonexistent Even though I could get people in the door, they weren’t coming back. My follow-up was chaotic. And honestly, my massage techniques and the way I spoke with clients probably didn’t help either. Lessons I Learned (And What You Need to Know Before Going Solo) If you’re struggling with retention or results, here’s what I wish I knew: Learn your back bar inside and out. Know every product, every tool, every mixology possibility. If you’re specializing in skincare, know what an impaired barrier is, what a dehydrated barrier is, and how to treat each. It’s completely different than treating younger clients with healthy skin who have acne. Prep your client’s skin before treatments. Don’t jump straight to the strongest peel or enzyme. Start at the right level, prep their skin for weeks if necessary, and build up gradually. Have a retail strategy. Whether you’re a waxer, lash artist, or esthetician, give clients products to take home. Educate them, support their results, and let them know the cycle of treatments (like hair growth cycles or lash health) so they understand why follow-ups matter. Set expectations and say no when needed. If a client’s skin or lashes are compromised, don’t force a treatment. Be honest, create a treatment plan, and sell packages to lock them in. Retail often matters more than a one-time treatment, especially when someone’s barrier or condition needs care before moving on to advanced procedures. Follow up consistently. Results don’t stop in the treatment room. Check in, educate, and guide your clients so they see progress. That’s what keeps them coming back. All of this taught me a crucial lesson: getting clients in the door is only half the battle. If you don’t know how to retain them, educate them, and create results they can see and feel, your business will struggle. The first time around, I learned the hard way. But now, with experience, I understand the systems, strategy, and structure required to run a successful solo business. And yes—it’s all about the follow-up.

  • Understanding RF-Related Facial Fat Loss — and How Dynamic Microcurrent Supports Recovery

Radiofrequency (RF) treatments have become popular for skin tightening and rejuvenation, but many clients are surprised to learn that RF can sometimes cause unintended facial fat loss . This effect is especially noticeable in areas like the nasolabial folds , mid-face , and jawline , where volume plays a crucial role in youthful facial structure. While RF can be effective when properly performed, understanding how and why fat loss occurs—and how to support tissue recovery—is essential for safe aesthetic practice. How RF Can Cause Facial Fat Loss RF devices work by delivering controlled heat into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen remodeling. However, certain systems—particularly monopolar and high-intensity devices  like Thermage, as well as older platforms and overused at-home units—can reach temperatures of 45–50°C , deep enough to affect the subcutaneous fat layer . At these temperatures, fat cells may undergo: *Lipolysis *Thermal damage leading to apoptosis *Gradual reduction in facial fullness This can manifest as: *Hollowing near the nasolabial folds *Flattening of the mid-face *A sharper, sometimes “collapsed,” jawline *A more gaunt or prematurely aged  appearance Individuals with naturally thin facial fat are especially vulnerable, as are clients who receive overly aggressive or too-frequent RF sessions. RF Microneedling and Temporary Tissue Compromise RF micro needling adds another layer of thermal exposure. The combination of needle penetration  and heat delivery  can temporarily weaken tissue integrity due to: *Collagen denaturation *Inflammation *Reduced local circulation *Temporary soft-tissue thinning This phase makes supportive therapy crucial. Why Dynamic Microcurrent is Essential After RF Following RF—especially RF microneedling— Dynamic Intelligent Microcurrent by Neurotris  offers a powerful way to support recovery and maintain structural balance. Benefits of Neurotris Dynamic Microcurrent: ✅ Promotes muscle engagement  to counteract soft-tissue thinning ✅ Boosts microcirculation , improving oxygenation and nutrient delivery ✅ Supports tissue repair  during the inflammatory phase ✅ Enhances long-term firmness and facial contour For optimal early-stage recovery, twice-weekly sessions  are recommended. This frequency helps build cumulative muscle tone, improves tissue resilience, and enhances overall clinical results. Why Neurotris Technology Stands Out Neurotris devices are engineered with Dynamic Intelligent Skin Impedance Monitoring , allowing them to: *Continuously assess the skin’s real-time conductivity *Adjust current delivery for precision and consistency *Maintain therapeutic microcurrent levels across all skin types and densities This ensures reliable, safe, and reproducible outcomes , unlike conventional microcurrent machines that cannot adapt to varying hydration, thickness, or bioelectric differences. The Bottom Line RF technologies can be highly effective—but they must be paired with supportive treatments to protect facial volume and optimize results. Dynamic Intelligent Microcurrent  stands as one of the most important adjunct therapies for restoring tissue harmony, enhancing recovery, and preserving youthful facial structure after RF.

  • NeurotriS vs. EMSCULPT: Understanding HIFEM and Next-Gen Muscle Technologies

When it comes to body contouring and muscle strengthening, the technologies available today are advancing rapidly. Two standout approaches are HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology , used in EMSCULPT, and NeurotriS technology . While both target muscles, they do so in fundamentally different ways, offering unique benefits depending on your goals. HIFEM Technology: Deep Muscle Strengthening High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology relies on electromagnetic induction —not electrical currents—to stimulate muscle contractions. This creates a powerful electromagnetic field that penetrates deep into the muscle tissue, activating motor neurons and triggering supramaximal contractions . These are involuntary contractions that exceed what the body can achieve naturally. At these intensities, all muscle fibers within a muscle are recruited , promoting deep strengthening. Because HIFEM energy reaches deep layers, it is particularly effective for pelvic floor strengthening , helping to improve conditions such as urinary incontinence. While some manufacturers may mention fat reduction, HIFEM’s primary focus is on muscle engagement and strengthening , rather than directly targeting fat. NeurotriS Technology: Targeted Aesthetics and Cellular Health NeurotriS technology uses electrical microcurrents  with unique signal patterns to stimulate tissues differently than HIFEM. Its benefits include: *Lipolysis:  Reduces superficial fat by shrinking fat cells. *Muscle Toning:  Stimulates voluntary muscle fibers, enhancing visible muscle contouring. *Cellular Function:  Improves intracellular hydration and mitochondrial efficiency. *ATP Production:  Boosts energy at the cellular level, supporting detoxification and overall cellular health. In essence, NeurotriS delivers more aesthetic benefits , focusing on visible toning, fat reduction, and cellular vitality, while HIFEM concentrates on deep muscle strength and functional improvement. Key Takeaways Feature HIFEM (EMSCULPT) NeurotriS Muscle Activation Deep, involuntary Superficial, voluntary Fat Reduction Limited Lipolysis of superficial fat Pelvic Health Effective Not primary focus Cellular Benefits Minimal Boosts ATP & hydration Ideal For Strength, functional improvement Aesthetic toning, fat reduction Both technologies offer unique advantages, so choosing the right approach depends on whether your goal is functional muscle strengthening  or aesthetic enhancement .

  • My Mission: To Create the Most Amazing Facial Experience

I’m on a mission to create the most amazing facial — an experience that feels luxurious, intentional, and unforgettable. But to get there, we have to start from the very beginning. The magic begins before you even touch the client’s skin. It’s all in the atmosphere, the comfort, and the thoughtful details that make them feel completely cared for. Here are a few things that I believe set the foundation for an incredible facial experience: 1. The Power of Scent: Essential Oils The moment a client walks through the door, their senses start to shape how they feel. I love having a diffuser running — it instantly sets the tone for relaxation. I constantly get compliments on how amazing my spa smells from the moment clients walk in. I use two favorite essential oils from ESS Aromatherapy (via Universal Companies): - Relaxation Water Soluble Essential Oil Blend — a calming mix of lavender, tangerine, and patchouli - Peppermint Essential Oil — fresh, energizing, and uplifting A soothing scent is such a simple way to create that “wow” moment right away. 2. The Mood: Lighting & Ambiance Lighting makes such a difference. I love a good spa glow, so I always keep the lights dim and the flameless candles flickering. They give the space that cozy, soft glow without the worry of open flame. My favorites are the Artisan Ivory Wax Luminaries Candle Holders from Universal Companies — they add warmth, elegance, and a touch of calm that helps every client unwind the moment they lie down. 3. The Foundation: The Treatment Bed The treatment bed totally matters. If your client isn’t completely comfortable, they won’t fully relax — and that’s where the experience starts to lose its magic. I have the most amazing mattress topper from Sol Beauty Co. — it makes such a huge difference in how cozy and plush the bed feels. I also use a disinfectable cover that goes over it, so I can keep everything sanitary without sacrificing comfort. 4. The Finishing Touch: Sheets and Presentation Let’s talk about the sheets. For years, I used budget-friendly options from big box stores — they were okay, but nothing special. Then I upgraded to Comphy and it was a total game changer. Their bed skirt instantly elevates the look of a standard massage table and makes it feel spa-level chic. I like to keep things minimalistic, so I go with crisp white sheets. Then I add a bed warmer and a leg pillow to complete the cozy, elevated setup. 5. Massage & Hands: The Spa Experience That Feels Like Home Now, after all of this, I get really particular about my massage creams. I honestly believe that one of the reasons I’ve had such great client retention is because I put so much detail into their comfort and helping them fully relax. I always check if clients are okay with CBD, because so many come in with tension or tight necks. For me, a key part of my philosophy — “a spa-like experience with result-driven treatments” — comes down to massage. I like to give a long lymphatic massage on the face during every facial, along with a scalp massage, neck, decollete, arms, and a hand treatment. My favorite massage creams are: - Biotone Lab Blends CBD Massage Cream — super soothing and relaxing - Sacred Earth Botanicals Warming Massage Lotion — I especially love this warming one during the winter, and clients often ask to purchase it For hand treatments, I adore paraffin therapy — especially eucalyptus and peppermint. The cooling, refreshing scent is so relaxing. I make sure to use the full kit and follow the technique I learned while working at Burke Williams: melt the paraffin in a warmer, paint it on the hand, then use the plastic liner and mittens. My favorites are: - Eco-Fin Eucalyptus CBD Paraffin Alternative - Eco-Fin Escape Peppermint Essence Paraffin Alternative These little touches make a huge difference — they transform a facial from just a treatment into a full, spa-like experience that clients love and remember. This is just the beginning of my journey to create the perfect facial . Next, I’ll be sharing how I build out the rest of the experience — from music and flow to finishing touches — all the little details that transform a facial into something truly memorable. Because when you design every element with care, your clients feel it.

  • Tiny Touches, Big Impact: How to Make Your Clients Feel Truly Pampered

As estheticians, we know that delivering a great treatment is about more than just the facial, peel, or massage it’s about creating an experience. The little details you add can leave a lasting impression and make your clients feel truly cared for. One of the things I love to do is think ahead about convenience. Something as simple as hooks on the wall for clients to hang their belongings can make a huge difference. It shows that every detail of their visit has been thoughtfully considered. I personally love creating a spa-like experience, which often means a client’s hair can get messy or oily during treatments. And because many clients need to get back to their day quickly, I make sure the bathroom is stocked with little conveniences that make life easier. These include: *Disposable combs *Extra hair ties *Dry shampoo *Spray deodorant *Mints and perfumes I also love offering refreshments! I give clients a choice of still or sparkling water, coffee, and even a little treat like Mexican candy which feels very “me” and adds a fun, personal touch to their experience. I love seeing people taste mexican candy for the first time =) These small touches help clients leave feeling refreshed, cared for, and pampered almost like they’ve had a mini spa escape rather than just a facial. Ultimately, it’s not just the treatment that matters t’s how clients feel when they leave your space. Thoughtful details create a sense of luxury, build trust, and keep clients coming back. Tiny touches may seem small, but their impact is huge.

  • 🌿 Nourishing the Skin Naturally: My Go-To Professional Oils for Every Skin Need

🌿 Nourishing the Skin Naturally: My Go-To Professional Oils for Every Skin Need Healthy, balanced skin starts with the right kind of nourishment — and that’s why I’m excited to share three of my favorite professional-grade oils that I use daily in my treatment room and recommend to clients for at-home care. Each one is designed with intention, using plant-based ingredients that soothe, protect, and transform the skin. ✨ Brightening Oil Perfect for:  Everyday hydration, post-dermaplane care, intimate brightening, and shaving aftercare This multitasking oil is one of my all-time favorites, especially when performing dermaplaning or recommending post-shave care. Almond Oil  – Naturally antibacterial and balancing, almond oil helps regulate moisture and prevent excessive water loss. Grapeseed Oil  – Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, it soothes irritation and promotes an even tone. 💧 A few drops (3–5) keep your skin soft, hydrated, and glowing all day. It also layers beautifully under serums or moisturizers to lock in hydration. The Brightening Oil is also part of my Bikini Line Perfecting collection  — applying a thin layer after shaving helps maintain smooth, balanced skin and reduces post-shave dryness or irritation. It’s gentle enough to be used in intimate brightening protocols  as well. 🌼 Soothing Oil Perfect for:  Post-wax, post-procedure, eczema, dermatitis, or sensitive skin In my treatment room, this is my go-to rescue oil  — I use it after every wax service, whether it’s face or body. Whenever a client shows a histamine reaction or experiences redness, I reach for this formula immediately. Calendula  – A centuries-old botanical known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Algal Oil  – A vegan omega-3 source that deeply nourishes and strengthens the skin barrier. This oil calms irritation, soothes inflammation, and supports skin recovery after professional treatments — making it ideal for anyone with sensitive or compromised skin. 🩵 Extra Nourishing Oil Perfect for:  Post-peel care, dry or mature skin, and cooler climates This oil is slightly richer, offering deep hydration and comfort for dry or post-procedure skin. I include it in my post-peel kits  and always apply it after performing a double peel  treatment. Shea Nut Oil  – Provides long-lasting nourishment and helps restore the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Safflower Oil  – Non-comedogenic and rich in linoleic acid and Vitamin E, it delivers lightweight moisture while supporting barrier health. While this oil is perfect for drier climates, I typically recommend it to my Florida clients during our cooler, less humid months. Just like the Brightening Oil, 3–5 drops is all you need for all-day hydration and a supple glow. 💬 Final Thoughts Each of these oils plays a special role in maintaining healthy, resilient skin — whether you’re recovering from a peel, calming post-wax irritation, or simply looking to keep your complexion balanced and radiant. If you’d like personalized guidance on how to integrate these into your professional treatments or skincare routine, I’d love to help. With love and radiant skin, Maria Ramos Founder, Money Making Esthetician

  • Clarity Sells: How to Create an Offer You Can Stand Behind”

Most estheticians don’t lose clients because of their skills — they lose them because they’re not prepared  to present their offer with clarity and confidence. Having your offer ready means knowing exactly what you’re selling, at what price, and how it fits into your long-term business goals — before  the client even walks through the door. It’s the difference between reacting and leading . 💡 Why “Having Your Offer Ready” Matters When you hesitate or make up prices on the spot, clients can sense the uncertainty. Confidence sells — and confidence comes from clarity. If you already know your numbers, your value, and your next step, you’ll naturally guide the conversation instead of scrambling to “make the sale.” For example, I already know that the lowest I can go — while keeping my profit and client lifetime value intact — is $150 . That number is non-negotiable. That’s my floor . But my goal isn’t just a one-time visit. It’s to build retention and transformation . So, when a new client comes in, I position the service at $180 , and I already have my next step ready — a package  that supports consistency and results. 🧴 How to Present Your Offer Like a Pro Here’s what that sounds like in real life: “This treatment is $180 individually, but if you purchase a package of three, it goes down to $150 per treatment. That gives you a plan, a discount, and consistency for real results.” See how simple that is?You’re not pressuring the client — you’re guiding  them toward the best path for results. And because you already know your structure, you sound confident and credible. Once that series is complete and your client has experienced the transformation, you already know your next offer — your membership . That’s how you move clients from a one-time visit into a loyal relationship, without discounting reactively or making it up as you go. 🧠 What It Really Means to “Have Your Offer Ready” When you’re prepared, you stop winging it — and start leading. Having your offer ready means you: ✅ Know your baseline pricing (and never go below it) ✅ Have clear options: single service, series, membership ✅ Can confidently explain why  your pricing makes sense ✅ Understand the client journey — from first visit to loyal member When you show up with that level of preparation, clients feel it. You ’re not just another service provider — you’re a professional with a plan. ✨ The Bottom Line Every confident esthetician has one thing in common: clarity . When your offer is clear, your confidence follows — and so do the sales. So before your next client walks in, ask yourself: ➡️ Do I know my numbers? ➡️ Do I know what I’m offering next? ➡️ Do I sound confident explaining it? If not, it’s time to get your offer ready. Because the moment you lead with clarity, your clients will say yes  with confidence. 💬 Ready to Level Up Your Offers? If you’re ready to stop guessing and start selling with confidence, I’ve got you covered. Download my free Spa Offer & Pricing Planner — a simple worksheet that helps you structure your single services, packages, and memberships for profit and retention.

  • Get to Know: Universal Companies (John & Marti)

Hi everyone I’m John, co-owner of Universal Companies alongside my mom (and hero) Marti, who founded the business 40+ years ago. I wanted to take a moment to say how grateful we are to be part of this group. Universal actually started as an esthetics-focused day spa before we ever became a spa supplier. Mom built it as a single mother, so the business was basically my second home as a kid. Universal has grown a lot since then: we now support over 80,000 spa professionals and businesses around the world, but solo esties will always have our heart. We know how much drive it takes to open that first room, build your book of business, and keep going when things get tough. That’s why this partnership with the Money Making Esthetician community is so meaningful to us. We’re here to share what we’ve learned working with the best spas in the world, highlight tools and ideas that can save you time and money, and hopefully make your entrepreneurial journey a little smoother. Thank you for welcoming us into your community — we can’t wait to learn, share, and grow alongside you. John

  • Can You Send Too Many Newsletters? (Learn From My Mistake Before It Costs You Subscribers)

I am sharing this because I do not want you to make the same mistake I did. Recently, I completely messed up my email schedule. Somehow, my newsletters were lined up to go out back to back: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. By the time Wednesday hit, I opened my email analytics… and saw six of my favorite clients had unsubscribed. Six. In one email. 💔 That is when it hit me: too much email too quickly can push even your most loyal subscribers away. And the scary part? It is not just about losing subscribers — sending emails too often can hurt your brand reputation, your deliverability rates, and even how your emails show up in inboxes. What is Newsletter Fatigue? “Newsletter fatigue” is when your audience feels like they are getting too much from you — too many messages, too often, and not enough breathing room. It is kind of like that friend who texts you every five minutes for updates. You love them, but it is a lot. When people hit “unsubscribe,” it is often not because they do not like you anymore — it is because their inbox is overloaded and you became part of the noise instead of the value. Can You Actually Send Too Many Emails? Yes — and here is why it is risky: • Your open rates drop because people start ignoring your emails • Your unsubscribe rate spikes (like my six in one day horror story) • You trigger spam filters, especially if you are emailing too frequently without enough engagement • You burn out your list and lose long term trust How Often Should You Send a Newsletter? There is no one size fits all, but here is what research and industry averages say: • Service based businesses (like beauty, wellness, coaching): 1 to 4 times per month is the sweet spot • E-commerce and retail: 1 to 2 times per week for regular engagement, with occasional extra sends for launches or sales • Educational and community based businesses: Weekly or bi-weekly tends to keep people engaged without overwhelming them Best Days and Times to Send Newsletters Studies show that your timing matters almost as much as your content: • Best days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (people are in “work mode” but not drowning in Monday emails or checked out for Friday or the weekend) • Best times: • Morning: 9 to 11 AM (before lunch slump) • Afternoon: 1 to 3 PM (after lunch but before the end of day rush) • Pro tip: Test different days and times with your audience — your analytics will tell you when they are most engaged Signs You Are Sending Too Many Emails Watch for these red flags: • Your unsubscribe rate is higher than 0.5 percent per send • Open rates are steadily declining (industry average is around 20 to 25 percent) • You are getting direct feedback like, “I missed this” or “I cannot keep up” • People start marking your emails as spam (even unintentionally) How to Avoid Newsletter Fatigue (and Keep Your Audience Engaged) 1. Create a content calendar so you are not stacking emails too close together 2. Vary your content — do not just sell, mix in education, personal stories, behind the scenes, and value packed tips 3. Segment your list — send certain emails only to people who would actually be interested in that content 4. Use analytics as your guide — if your numbers start dropping, pull back 5. Space out promotions — if you are doing a big push for something, make sure to build breathing room before and after The Bottom Line Email marketing is one of the most powerful tools you have for building trust, nurturing relationships, and driving sales. But more is not always better. If you overload your audience, you risk turning value into noise — and once people unsubscribe, it is hard to get them back. So take it from me: plan your sends, respect inbox space, and focus on delivering content your audience actually wants to open.

  • Understanding Hyperpigmentation - A Pro’s Guide

For estheticians who want to treat pigment with purpose. Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common concerns we see in the treatment room, yet one of the most misunderstood. And if you’re treating every dark spot the same way, you’re probably not getting the results you could be. Let’s break down what hyperpigmentation really is, what causes it, and how to treat it with both strategy and science. What Is Hyperpigmentation? Hyperpigmentation is an umbrella term for darkened patches or spots on the skin caused by excess melanin production. It’s not a condition in itself, it’s a symptom of something deeper: inflammation, trauma, UV exposure, or hormonal changes. Types of Hyperpigmentation Estheticians Should Know: Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) Caused by acne, picking, heat, or irritation. These spots are usually flat and pink, brown, or grey, depending on skin tone. Common in Fitz IV–VI, and one of the most frustrating for acne-prone clients. Sun-Induced Pigment (Lentigines/Freckles) Caused by repeated UV exposure over time. Typically show up as small, defined spots, especially on the face, neck, chest, and hands. Freckles (Ephelides) Genetically driven, but darken with the sun. These are normal and benign, but many clients confuse them with damage. Melasma A chronic, hormonally influenced pigmentation disorder. Often mistaken for PIH or sun damage, but much deeper and harder to treat. We’ll dive into melasma more deeply in the next post, because it deserves its own protocol discussion. Common Causes of Hyperpigmentation UV exposure (with or without sunburn) Inflammation (acne, eczema, injury, heat) Overuse of exfoliants or actives Improper post-treatment care Hormonal changes (melasma-related) Often, pigment is worsened by a combination of these factors, not just one. Key Ingredients to Look For Estheticians need more than just a “brightening serum.” The goal is to regulate melanin production, calm inflammation, and support barrier repair - all at once Ingredients Why it works Arbutin Inhibits tyrosinase to prevent melanin overproduction Vitamin C Brightens, protects against free radicals, and supports collagen Mushroom Extract Calms inflammation and helps even tone NAD+ Supports cell repair and reduces oxidative stress Centella Asiatica Soothes skin and reduces pigment-related inflammation Squalane & Panthenol Restore barrier function and improve tolerance to actives Treatment Strategy: What Works for Pigmentation ✔️Gentle exfoliation (enzymes, lactic, mandelic) ✔️ Brightening serums (arbutin, vitamin C, mushroom) ✔️ Consistent home care and client education ✔️ Barrier support (especially post-procedure) ✔️ Daily SPF – no exceptions Pigment doesn’t fade quickly. The best results come from layering treatments over time—with smart home care and strict sun protection. Pre-Treatment is Non-Negotiable for Fitz 4–6 Before diving into chemical peels, microneedling, or any advanced resurfacing treatments, it’s critical to pre-treat higher Fitzpatrick skin types with pigment inhibitors. This helps reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and creates a more even, predictable outcome. Look for ingredients like: Arbutin Vitamin C Azelaic acid (if tolerated) Licorice root extract Mushroom extract NAD+ (for inflammation support and cellular repair) Pre-treatment should begin 2–4 weeks prior to any moderate or deep treatment for optimal results. This is one of the most overlooked steps, and one of the most important , especially if you want to protect melanin-rich skin and earn long-term client trust. Prevention: It Starts With SPF If your client is doing everything right and still struggling with dark spots, start with the sunscreen. Non-tinted SPF works for most types of pigment (PIH, sun spots). Tinted SPF with iron oxides is critical for melasma and pigment-prone skin, especially in deeper Fitz types. Why? Because visible light (not just UV) plays a role in pigment activation, especially with melasma and deeper skin tones. Pro Insight You can’t treat what you can’t identify. Always determine: •What type of pigment you're dealing with •Where it’s coming from (epidermal vs. dermal) •What the client’s habits and triggers are The more precise your approach, the better your outcomes, and the more trust you build as a pro. What’s Next? In our next post, we’ll dive into melasma - how to identify it, how to manage it, and why your approach needs to be completely different from typical pigment protocols.
